David’s Story:

Can you introduce yourself and tell us what university you attend?

My name is David, and I attend Uni Abuja.

How would you describe the student government at your university?

They are fairly effective but are limited by the university management.

What roles do the student government play in campus life?

They try their best with student welfare, but there is only so much they can do.

Do you feel the student government is effective in representing student interests? Why or why not?

I believe so. Even with the little they have, they still find a way to help U of A students.

Can you share an example of a significant achievement or failure of the student government?

I don’t have one at the moment.

How transparent and accountable do you find the student government?

They are transparent to the public, but can be very dirty behind the scenes.

What changes or improvements would you like to see in the student government?

I would like to see more power and money given to the SUG so they can do their jobs better.

How can students get more involved with the student government at your university?

Through social events like parties, dinners, galas, and especially through Congress, where students can question their leaders’ achievements and shortcomings.

Have you personally interacted with any student government members? If so, what was your experience?

I have one or two close friends in the government. They are just normal students, though they are also politicians.

What advice would you give to incoming students about engaging with the student government?

Be open with them because they are students like you. They are here to serve.

Conclusion:

David’s experience at Uni Abuja shows a lot about the student government. From dealing with management limitations to facing transparency issues, he’s seen it all. What do you think about his story?
